Survey study, 2013
Does a Persian version of a PMS screening tool work well for Iranian women?
Yes, the translated screening tool reliably identified PMS in 30.7% and PMDD in 12.9% of Iranian university students, with good reliability and validity scores. It can be used to detect these conditions in Iranian women.
What they did
Translated a PMS screening tool (PSST) from English to Persian using standard back-translation. Gave it to 925 female university students aged 18 and over in Tehran. Tested reliability through internal consistency and content validity.
What they found
Of 925 students, 284 (30.7%) met criteria for PMS and 119 (12.9%) for PMDD. The tool had satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha 0.93) and desirable content validity (CVR 0.7, CVI 0.8).
What it means for you
The Persian version of this screening tool is reliable and valid for identifying PMS and PMDD in Iranian women. This is useful for research and clinical practice in Iran but does not directly tell us about causes or treatments for PMS.
