Case report, 1994
Does vitamin D and calcium help with menstrual migraines and PMS?
Yes. Both women had major reduction in headache attacks and premenstrual symptoms within 2 months. This suggests the treatment may help, but only two women were treated so we cannot be sure it works for everyone.
What they did
Two premenopausal women with menstrual migraines and premenstrual syndrome were treated with a combination of vitamin D and calcium. Improvement was noted within 2 months.
What they found
Both women had a major reduction in headache attacks and premenstrual symptoms within 2 months of treatment.
What it means for you
This suggests vitamin D and calcium may help menstrual migraines and PMS symptoms. The main limit is that only two women were studied, so we cannot know if the treatment works for others with similar symptoms.
